Sen. London Lamar hosting town hall on reducing gun violence

Memphis police Chief Cerelyn Davis, community leaders will join discussion

MEMPHIS — Gun violence prevention will be the focus of a town hall hosted Saturday by Tennessee Sen. London Lamar, D-Memphis, who is encouraging the public attend and share their concerns.

To enhance the community discussion, the District 33 senator is bringing together Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis; DeAndre Brown, the executive director of Shelby County’s Office of Reentry; and Reverend Reginald Boyce, the pastor at Riverside Missionary Baptist Church.

Sen. Lamar, who has advocated recently for legislation to address the root causes of gun violence, hopes to give a platform to families and community members who have ideas and concerns about the issue.

“We want safe neighborhoods for our kids and families because it doesn’t matter what you have or what you’ve earned in your life if it’s all gone in a second,” said Sen. Lamar.

The discussion will include time to address state efforts and legislation to reduce gun violence as well as community-based solutions.
