Group overseeing federal stimulus funds meets today

NASHVILLE — The Stimulus Financial Accountability Group, established by Gov. Bill Lee to oversee the spending of federal stimulus funds provided through the Coronavirus Relief Fund created by the CARES Act, will meet today.

Sen. Raumesh Akbari will represent the Senate Democratic Caucus within the group, which will manage the distribution of approximately $2.3 billion.

“There are two main priorities for these federal COVID-19 response dollars,” Akbari said. “Do as much as we can to save lives and invest the rest in the health, safety and financial stability of families so they can make it through this pandemic and weather this economic fallout.”

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act is the largest relief package ever passed by the United State Congress. The CARES Act includes a broad array of provisions intended to support the nation’s healthcare system as well as provide direct relief to businesses, individuals, and state and local government.
