Sen. London Lamar aims to connect workers, employers at Resource Fair

Saturday event seeks to get Memphians back on the job

MEMPHIS — Memphians looking for work or access to job training could find new opportunities Saturday at the Shelby County Resource Fair hosted by Sen. London Lamar, D-Memphis, and Olympic Career Training Institute.

The public fair will feature community partners who are looking for workers and offering job training. Other partners are providing resume assistance, healthcare resources and financial literacy.

“Every Tennessean who works hard and plays by the rules should have a fair shot at success,” said Sen. Lamar. “Our goal with this Resource Fair is make sure people have the tools they need to apply for a job and to keep it.

“We’re grateful that so many partners in the community recognize the importance of supporting job hunters and workers who are in transition from other jobs,” Lamar said.

Some of the organizations participating on Saturday, include: Agape, Allegiant Institute of Healthcare Solutions, Atina Labs, Bluff City Magazine, CAAP Inc., City of Memphis, Destination Education Childcare Center, Greater Memphis Financial Empowerment Center, Hope House, Liberty Mutual, Memphis Urban League Young Professionals, Milestone, Olympic Career Training Institute, Preserve Now, Prestigious Placement, Respectable Results, Sam’s Club, Shelby County Health Department, Shelby County Relative Caregiver Program, Shelby County Trustee, Stellar Security Services, and more.

Shelby County’s unemployment rate was 4.6% in March, according to the Tennessee Labor Market Report.
