Sen. Raumesh Akbari statement on ‘suspicious’ letters sent to House Republicans

Akbari: ‘Neither violence nor the threat of violence has any place in a free society’

NASHVILLE — Senate minority leader Sen. Raumesh Akbari, D-Memphis, issued a statment today condemning those responsible for sending to G.O.P. lawmakers letters that included a suspicious white powder.

The FBI said Thursday the substance found in letters sent by mail to House Republican leaders was not a risk to public safety.

Senator Raumesh Akbari:

“Neither violence nor the threat of violence has any place in a free society. No matter how hurtful or frustrating politics in Tennessee may get, we must be resolved to extinguish the flames of hate and condemn those who resort to violence and intimidation.

“Our actions should always affirm our values of caring for and respecting one another, even those with whom we disagree.”
